Manchester: On July 15, 2023, KCA UK organised its annual picnic to Roundhay Park in Leeds. The park is owned by the City of Leeds. Roundhay Park now covers over 700 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland and is one of the largest urban parks in the world.

46 families of KCA UK living in and around the north west of England participated in this summer picnic.

A coach was hired for the travel, however few of the members reached directly to the picnic spot using their own transport. The day started with the prayers followed by welcome. The members reached the picnic spot area at around 10.00 AM. At this point the whole of KCA UK had a happy family gathering and placed the marquee in the camping area. This gave a common point to meet. Breakfast, prepared by KCA UK families was served.

KCA UK team scheduled the events and the people responsible for each event. It was noted that, there was a good mix of adult and the kids in taking the event responsibilities. Park information and the safety requirements were also briefed during this time.  All the participants were divided into two groups for games and sports.

A delicious lunch was served at around 2.30 PM. Thanks to KCA UK TEAM for effectively organising the Food.

Fun continued in the afternoon session with further sports and games. Each of the event coordinators were brilliant in liaising with kids and adults during sports and games.

The weather was erratic till mid-afternoon, rain and the wind, disturbing the events at regular intervals, but it was the unity, cooperation and the flexible approach of the KCA UK members helped to beat the rain and the wind to enjoy the day. KCA UK members will remember this family day out as a symbol of unity as the whole team worked together, and the success took care of itself.

In the closing hours of the day, all the participants, that is approximately 125 people, which includes adults and the kids, sat together singing/dancing their favourite songs in Konkani, Tulu, Kannada and Hindi. This includes the well-known Mangalorean ‘Baila’

The winning members/teams were honoured with prizes.

The charming day further continued with the return journey at 6.00pm where everyone continued their singing in the bus, later cracking jokes and conversations.

KCA UK had this picnic well planned; a pre-picnic visit was made by KCA UK Members to the picnic spot, to help the arrangements for the picnic. This proposed study and planning done has created a lot of interest for the group to visit this place.

KCA UK remains grateful to people from all the communities for their contribution towards community Cohesion.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who worked hard on this family day out.
